Rock Show Tonight! Cartoons Right Now!

June 17th, 2009 by Phil

In celebration of our show tonight at Ronny’s with Avagami, Coltrane Motion, and Floatation Walls, I’ve made a little cartoon for your enjoyment.  Actually, the cartoon has nothing to do with anything. It’s a bit of a non sequitor, really.

Our show starts at 9pm. Doctors and Butchers are funny. $7.

Yay!

P.S. If the cartoon doesn’t show up above, it might be because the site hosting the cartoon is down for maintenance! Boo!

A Gentle Reminder…

June 12th, 2009 by matt

Show tonight (Friday June 12th) at Quenchers with the Netherfriends, Tin Tin Can and Nighty Night.  Quenchers is, of course, located at the corner of Fullerton and Western, has free popcorn, a shocking array of beers and is a wonderful place to see 4 bands on a Friday for cheap!

If you can’t make tonight’s show, be heartened, disheartened reader.  Next Wednesday, the 17th of June, we’ll be playing at Ronny’s with Avagami, Coltraine Motion and Flotation walls.  Ronny’s is, of course, two blocks south of the California blue line, so go there to see things!  They might also have free nachos, which are delicious.

Album-wise, things are going splendidly…our forthcoming LP sounds like it was recorded professionally, instead of for nothing, by our professional friend Michael McGovern in our DIY studio spaces.  We’ve got 12 tracks instrumentally complete, 4 of those with vocals and we’re hammering out the last 13 of them this weekend, which is sort of manic and crazy, but we’re resolved to get this thing out.  Hooray!

Mortville was sweet! Quenchers Show 6/12! Venues within Venues!

May 31st, 2009 by matt

benbluevelvet

So,

Mortville ($5 store) at 2106 S. Kedzie is freaking sweet venue.  We basically played last night in a cardboard replica of the Slow Club from Blue Velvet, a venue inside a venue in their loft space, replete with Heineken & PBR.  Thanks to Sara, Josh and Clayton for having us out (and to anyone else we’ve forgotten).  Awesome show.

Our set last night:

1. Incidental Lines

2. Stapling Flowers

3. Deadpan Hands

4. Minerky Bill

5. Only Hungry

6. Deduction

7. Angelo

8. Eye Contact

9. Not Dead

10. Dig a Hole

Many of these songs are currently being recorded, for our forthcoming LP.  We’ll have previews of these new songs soon.  We’ll be playing at Quenchers on the 12th of June with the Netherfriends and Tin Tin Can.

That is all for now.

Show at Ronny’s! Wednesday, May 20th!

May 18th, 2009 by matt

dnots300

Hidely hey,

We’re playing a show Wednesday at Ronny’s!  We’re playing with We are Hex and Sweet Revenge.  Added bonus: the bassist girl from School of Rock is in Sweet Revenge, so y’know…come out and get real star struck.  And then listen to us!  Come out to 2101 N. California, in Logan Square, 9pm.  Not entirely sure what the cover is…should be over $5, but under $9, exactly.  We’ll be headlining, so get ready for a full evening of rock.

We’re recording our 2nd album right now…we’re rather torn between whether to release a 24 track double album, two individual albums spread out, 4 EPs, 3 EPs, or a combination physical/digital package.  Other than figuring the package out, the music itself is coming along rather well…we have 11 tracks with full instruments recorded, and are starting in on vocals…I spent Sunday hollering like a maniac in my room to great effect.  Recordings will be forthcoming & don’t forget to check back on June 1 for a new Single of the Month.  Stay tuned for more album details.

As much as I wish that picture above was somehow related to us, it’s not…but it’s awesome and it’s by David Lynch and listen to this: Dark Night of the Soul on NPR

The music business has made sure that a collaboration as shocking and wonderful and inexplicable as this will probably never be released, but you can still buy the David Lynch photobook, which comes with a blank CD so you can put your pirated copy of the album on it.  So, still pretty sweet.

A Reconstructive Kitchen Experience

April 27th, 2009 by matt

This here’s an experimental film.  I submitted it as a documentary.  It is an experimental documentary.  It is the tale of when I made fettucine alfredo, but also about a dead man, and the disease that ruined his brain, and how that effected the video playback that scientists saw afterward.  There were people there, and they spoke of dreadful things.  Also, there’s juggling.  I made all the music on my lonesome, with a variety of objects.  I also shot everything & edited too, but it’s actually a documentary.  This really happened.  In the eye is the best.

Hippy Haiku, Brother Trucker!

March 29th, 2009 by matt

little_asian_girl

So, we’re busy little bees in the Percolator camp right now…just finished up recording drums for more than an album’s worth of songs, as the rest of our equipment was in various states of disrepair after our last show at Schubas (thanks to all that came out…it was a truly wonderful show for us!…actually, if anyone reading has any pics they took, please send them our way!).  Now that we’re all fixed up, time to kick some album-recording ass!

But while we pile on guitars and vocals with our friend/engineer (frendgineer?) Mike McGovern for our forthcoming LP this summer (hopefully! fingers crossed!) what will keep us mentally engaged?  My dad and I came up with an answer: 3 word haikus.  For instance, our prototype:

“Unbelievable.

Anti-numerology?!

Unbelievable!”

So, the call is out…anyone got any great ideas for 3-word haikus?  All you need’s 2 5-syllable words and one 7-syllable one and you’re in business.  And NO CHEATING!  Please post in the comments section, or e-mail us.  We will resell all of your ideas at a great profit to us, so…no worries.

Oh yeah…also, subscribe to our RSS feed!  I just got into the whole Google Reader thing and damn…what a fun, comprehensive way to waste time!  It helped me get free “Observe and Report” tickets for an advance screening on AICN.com, so shit…can’t sneeze at that.

In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for a new song of the month coming up…from Phil!  & as always, Monsieur LaBouche is here.

-matt

p.s. Have you heard that new Joan of Arc song yet?  Don’t miss them on the 31st…at the Steppenwolf, I believe.

The Beautiful Era

Watch 14. Harpya (Raoul Servais, 1978) in Animation |  View More Free Videos Online at Veoh.com

Here’s a short from the 1970s by Raoul Servais, one of my favorite animators. It’s called Harpya. This is the only one of his films that looks this creepy, and it’s probably his best. For years,  I’ve wanted his films released on DVD in the States, but unfortunately, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen.  Oh well.  You can see a lot of them online (you can probably just follow the links embedded with the video).  If anyone ever hears about any of his films screening in Chicago, please, by all means, let me know!! I’ve only been able to enjoy his movies online, and I think that’s just wrong.  In the meantime, it looks like we can get a DVD of short animation by a fellow named Brian Dewan.  These look totally promising!

the

Month

Oh, The Humanity!

July's Single of the Month™ is Oh, The Humanity!, a song about grizzled wisdom flavored apathy in the face of disaster. The beat is inspired by our favorite local beat we hear so often in Logan Square…you know the one! This is the lead track off of our latest EP, The Illegally People EP.
